Pumpkin Pie Smoothie {vegan + gluten-free}

Posted on September 28, 2013

Autummn may be one of my favorite seasons. I love the cooler air in the mornings. Coffee shop walks where you can hear the rustle of reddish, orange leaves beneath your feet. And I definitely love pumpkin – pumpkin anything and everything. That’s why I created this Chai Inspired Pumpkin Pie Smoothie. :)

What you’ll need:
• 2 frozen bananas
• 1 cup of pumpkin puree (fresh or canned)
• 1 cup of unsweetened almond mylk
• 1 TBS of organic, local honey
• 1 tsp of vanilla extract
• 1/2 tsp of cinnamon
• 1/8 tsp of nutmeg & ginger
• 1/8 tsp of garam masala
• sprinkle of black pepper & cloves

Add all ingredients to your Vita-Mix or any other high speed blender and enjoy! You could also add in cinnamon sticks for an aesthetic twist if you’re serving company. ;)

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Craving autumn weather
heavy knits
tea to warm my fingertips
sweet, sweet melodies
that dance between the orange imbued leaves.
can you hear that gentle sway
through the trees?
they speak you see
there’s a fire that burns
through the night,
coal dark like ravens.
caffeinated glee
dances in the furnace of your belly
& up your bloodstream
hearts beat feverishly
only to be contained by porcelain white rib cages.
burdock roots run deep like tendrils
pleading with the earth
like lovers who confess only to tear stained pages.
sometimes, I feel that, only empaths can see.

Transitioning into Eka Pada Rajakapotasana

Posted on August 29, 2013

Eka Pada Rajakapotasana|One-legged King Pigeon Pose

・ Stretches the thighs, psoas, abdomen, chest, shoulders and neck.
・ Stimulates the abdominal organs
・ Calms the nervous system, thus calming the “monkey” mind

・ Sacroiliac injury
・ Ankle injury
・ Knee injury (I would advise to keep the foot of the bent leg flexed)
・ Tight hips or thighs

This advanced asana eluded me for quite some time because of the grip you need to take with your hands. If you feel that your practice is strong and you are ready to try out this posture, please make sure you warm up the body firstly; emphasis on stretching the quads, shoulders and back body. When practicing, make sure you breathe through each movement – deep Ujjayi breaths. I hope this video sheds some light on entering this pose!

My heart feels so full & dually light as I try to contain it’s jumps of excitement within the walls of my ribcage. Little thumps. Little time. It’s beating growing incessantly stronger. Breathe deep, honeychild.

Red Chard + Pear // Green Smoothie

Posted on March 30, 2013

Hey guys!

My partner & I just signed up for Door to Door Organics which has caused a flood of inspiration! If you aren’t familiar with them, you should definitely check them out! They partner up with organic farmers and deliver a box of organic groceries right to your door! No need to worry about GMO’s with these guys! I <3 them.

So, I was inspired by this simple green smoothie recipe they had posted; however, I didn't have all the ingredients, so I changed it up a bit. I believe this smoothie would be great for anybody from children to green smoothie lovers and even those who are trying to jump on the green smoothie bandwagon but may feel a bit apprehensive.

What you'll need:
• 1 Organic Banana
• 1 Organic Red Bartlett Pear
• 2 cups densely packed Organic Red Chard
• 1 cup Organic Almond Mylk
• 1 tsp Local/Raw Honey

You can easily sub out any of these ingredients. The orignal recipe called for kale but instead I used red chard. I also subbed out maple syrup for raw/local honey. Be creative!

chard pyrex

I de-stemmed the the red chard and DENSELY packed it into this Pyrex so it measures just over 2 cups. I then added one Bartlett pear and one banana. Again, you could use any type of pear. And unless you have a banana allergy, I would keep it in the recipe because it really adds to the sweetness of the green smoothie. The liquid base, I used one cup of almond mylk. Again here, you could use any type of nut mylk. If you make it yourself, even better! And just to kick a little extra sweetness into it, I added one teaspoon of local, raw Michigan honey. Put all your ingredients into a high powered blender and BLEND.

Results, a delicious Green Smoothie.

I split this concoction with my partner. So be prepared for one larger serving or split it into two smaller servings with a loved one or a friend!

Happy Blending! Let me know if you tried this recipe out or if you got creative in the kitchen.

Yoga Re’tree’at at Finca Bellavista

Posted on January 18, 2013

I have some exciting news to share with you all! Some of you may know that my partner and I are volunteering at Envision festival. For more info, check out: Envisionfestival.com

However, post festival I will be offering a yoga retreat at the beautiful, Finca Bellavista in Costa Rica. Finca Bellavista is a sustainable treehouse community nestled in the rainforest of the South Pacific coastal region. Taken from their website.. “In essence, Finca Bellavista is a rustic, yet comfortable, private retreat off the beaten path where limited numbers of guests can explore the natural wonders of the rainforest and enjoy a simpler life.” Sounds like the perfect location for a yoga retreat, eh?

We will begin every morning with a led Ashtanga practice – a great place to set your intention for the day. Then you can fill your belly with farm fresh food and your body & mind with other wonderful activities. Would you like to zip line through the canopy of a rain forest? Or take an epic hike to swim under a waterfall? Have you ever listened, truly listened to nature surrounding you? These were all things that really stood out to me, my first time traveling to the Finca. Not to mention, the amazing people and volunteers I met during my stay. We will wind down the evening with a Slow Flow Vinyasa or Yinyasa class prior to dinner. Enjoy dinner while listening to the sounds of the rainforest. Will you join me? :)

I believe we like to complicate things when it really is quite simple. We busy ourselves to fill voids. What makes you happy? What do you yearn for?

Live your truth.
